Al Azzab Markets in Qatar: Shops, Activities, and Renting

Al Azzab markets are a newer and more specialized part of QDB’s neighborhood markets program. These shopping areas are built on government land to serve the Azzab compounds, where livestock are kept outside the city.

QDB launched this project in 2020 during the third phase of Al Furjan. Today, there are three Al Azzab markets, which are part of a larger program that includes 65 markets and 874 shops located near the larger Al Furjan markets.

The main goals of this project are to provide services for the Azzab compounds, support local businesses, and help build a strong economy in remote areas.

Where the Al Azzab markets are

According to Al-Raya, the launch announcement listed the locations of the three markets and their 29 shops as follows.

• Al-Shahaniya market, 9 shops
• Abu Nakhla market, 9 shops
• Lekhraib market, 11 shops

Each unit also has staff accommodation, which helps keep operations smooth and reduces costs for tenants.

What you can open in an Al Azzab shop

The list of allowed activities highlights what makes the market unique. It covers basic neighborhood services and adds options for livestock owners that are not available in Al Furjan markets. The Ministry of Municipality and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry helped create this list.

How shops are allocated

When the markets launched in 2020, shops were given out through a raffle for Qatari citizens. Registration was open for thirty days through the Al Furjan mobile app.

QDB made the process simple on purpose. There were no fees, guarantees, or licenses needed to apply. Applicants only had to provide their ID number to confirm they were Qatari citizens.

Priority was given to people living in the market’s area, which was checked by matching their property number to the market’s and showing the title deed. Winners then had ten working days to get a commercial registration for their assigned activity.

Since then, the process has matched the larger program. QDB said that people can apply online for empty shops using the QDB digital portal app once the reserve lists are finished.

Applications must follow the rules, and tenants can choose an activity as long as it fits the market’s policy on repeating or changing activities. For the latest openings and rules, the digital app is the main place to check.
