Buying an Existing House With Qatar’s Housing Loan
Qatar’s housing loan helps citizens buy a ready home for up to QAR 1,200,000. The seller receives payment once the title is transferred to the buyer. The house must meet three conditions, including at least 329 square meters of built area and being no more than ten years old. Here’s how you can use this program to buy a home.

Qatari citizens can borrow up to QAR 1,200,000 to buy a ready home, as long as they follow the rules set by the Housing Department at the Ministry of Social Development and Family.
Buying a home is different from building one in two main ways. First, the house must meet three conditions before you can get the loan.
Second, the money is paid all at once instead of in stages. We checked the process using QDB’s purchase service page and the application form. Here’s how this option works, with the full process explained in our housing loan guide.
The three conditions the house must meet
Not every house for sale qualifies. QDB has three requirements a house must meet to get financing.
- The land area is not below the size approved by the ministry
- The built area must be at least 329 square meters.
- The house must be no older than ten years, based on its building completion certificate.
The completion certificate serves two purposes. It proves the house’s age and is also required in your application file.
The purchase route needs four extra attachments in addition to the general documents, including the certificate. You can find the full list for each route in our guide to application documents by loan type.
How the money moves
There are no stage payments with this option. The loan is paid directly into the seller’s account once the property is registered in your name.
That’s why your file needs a bank letter showing the seller’s account details. This single payment also starts your repayment period. On the purchase route, you start paying installments as soon as the seller receives the full amount.
There is no two-year window, just one trigger. Details about the installment, the 1% fee, and other numbers are in our guide to loan amounts, fees, and monthly payments.
What comes with the purchase
Buying a home through this route does not add extra costs. This option is one of two that include the QAR 50,000 furniture grant for Qatari citizens.
The grant is completely free of installments or fees and is paid after the loan amount has been fully disbursed, which means after the seller has been paid in full.
